MASN Signs Bob Carpenter for 2008 Season
Bob Carpenter will return to the Washington Nationals’ television booth for the 2008 season, MASN announced Thursday. The veteran broadcaster has been the television voice of the Nationals since the 2006 season and will return as the play-by-play announcer in 2008.
“I’m pleased to be back with MASN and the Nationals,” said Carpenter. “It’s an exciting time, with a new stadium, a team that’s getting better every year, and with the greatest fans in baseball. In only its first full year, MASN is doing a cutting edge production and has one of the best talent teams in all of baseball.
“I want to express my gratitude to all of the Nationals fans who spoke out on my behalf. Without their support, I’m not sure this would have happened.
“I am looking forward to being back with Don and Debbie next year. My goal is to continue to give the Nationals’ fans the best telecast in baseball,” Carpenter continued.

Carpenter joined MASN and the Nationals in 2006 after 10 years in the TV booth of the St. Louis Cardinals and more than 20 in the major leagues.
The St. Louis native debuted in 1984 with Cardinals baseball on the Sportstime Cable Network, then returned in '95 on KPLR-TV and KMOX Radio. He has been nominated for 4 St. Louis/Mid-America Emmys, winning twice in '96 and '97.
His signature home run call, "See ... you ... later!" got local and national recognition during Mark McGwire's record-setting home run chase in '98. Carpenter also appeared on TV in the '80s and '90s with the Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Minnesota Twins.
Bob was one of ESPN's busiest announcers over a 17-year career as play-by-play announcer for MLB, college basketball and college football. He has broadcast baseball playoffs, AAA All-Star games, NCAA and NIT basketball tournaments, and college football bowl games. Studio work included College Gameday and College Football Scoreboard shows.
His baseball work with ESPN paired him with former major leaguers Buck Martinez, Joe Morgan, Jim Palmer, Ray Knight, Jerry Reuss, Frank Viola and many others. On the basketball side, he worked with Dick Vitale, Bill Raftery, Larry Conley, Jim Valvano and many others.
MASN is the television home of the Washington Nationals and televises 160 games each season. The network also televises a live 30-minute pre-game and post-game show (Nats Xtra) for every game, and a weekly magazine show, Nats Access, during baseball season.
MASN is the local leader in live sports programming and televises more than 520 major college and professional events annually.
