Official Cable Network of the Patriots kicks off coverage November 9

MASN, the Official Cable Network of George Mason Basketball, will air eight live George Mason Patriots men’s basketball games this season. MASN’s coverage tips off on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. when Patriots take on Vermont live at the Patriot Center.

The Patriots return all five starters this season, including Will Thomas and Folarin Campbell, both of whom played on the Final Four team in 2006. Coach Jim Larranaga’s team was recently voted by league coaches, sports information directors and media as the favorite to win the 2007-2008 Colonial Athletic Association title.

“We were very pleased with the relationship we had last year with MASN as well as the added exposure it provided our fans,” said Mason Athletic Director Tom O’Connor. “In just one season of local sports programming on MASN, we have experienced tremendous growth and we look forward to that continuing this season.”

Throughout the season, George Mason will compete against a number of local and regional colleges and universities on MASN including East Carolina University, Liberty, Delaware, James Madison, UNC-Wilmington, Towson and William & Mary.

“George Mason earned the respect of sports fans across the entire country when they battled their way to the Final Four in 2006 and Coach Larranaga’s team is poised to be one of the top teams in the CAA again this year” said Todd Webster, MASN Spokesman. “MASN is proud to televise Patriots basketball to more than 5.2 million viewers over a seven-state region.”

The Patriots will also appear on MASN in the 13th annual BB&T Classic, supporting the Children’s Charities Foundation on Sunday, December 2. George Mason will take on the East Carolina Pirates live at 5:00 p.m. from the Verizon Center in Washington DC. The triple-header also features George Washington, Maryland, Virginia Commonwealth, and Auburn.

MASN is the leader in live sports programming, televising more than 520 professional and collegiate events annually throughout a seven-state television territory. This season marks the second year of MASN’s television partnership with George Mason basketball. Last year, the network aired nine live Patriots games.

MASN televises 320 Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles Major League Baseball games and more than 200 NCAA football, basketball and lacrosse games featuring members of the Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, CAA, WAC, Sun Belt and MAC conferences.
