Big East Showdown Tonight on MASN
| | Comments (1)

The struggling St. John's Red Storm travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers in a Big East game Thursday night at 7:00 pm, live on MASN.

St. Johns Basketball

The Johnnies (7-8) are coming off back-to-back conference losses to Connecticut and DePaul and are in need of a win on the road. The Red Storm are 0-3 away from New York City and have just one conference win, that a 12-point win at home vs. Cincinnati.

Freshman forward Justin Burrell (18 pts) and junior forward Anthony Mason Jr (11 pts) led the Red Storm vs. DePaul in their last game, but the Blue Demons were too much in a 6-point loss.

One of the problems for the Red Storm has been their bench scoring (they only had 12 points vs. DePaul) and they must correct that vs. West Virginia.

For the Mountaineers (12-4), who have won 2 of their last 3 games, their home crowd has certainly been good to them. This season, West Virginia is 8-2 there and they haven't lost at home since December 29 (a 6-point defeat to Oklahoma - in a game played in Charleston).

Junior guard Alex Ruoff (16.6 PPG) continues to lead the team in scoring after pouring in 23 points in their last win, a 20-point drubbing of Syracuse.

West Virginia defeated St. John's, 73-46, last season in Morgantown.
