Catching Up with Ryan Zimmerman
When we caught up with the Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman last week, we asked him to give us an update on his wrist, his contract situation and his thoughts on the new ball park.
On the prospect of resigning with the Nationals:
“I know I don’t want to go anywhere. So does Jim (Bowden), Stan (Kasten) and the Lerners. Now we just have to work something out that makes sense for both of us. That’s the business part of it. It has to be fair to me and to them. We will talk again this spring and hopefully work something out that will make everyone happy.”

How is the recovery for your wrist going?
“It is going good. I have been hitting softballs for two or three weeks now. Actually just hit live BP the last couple of days. I can still hit and stuff like that. It’s going to take a month or so for those muscles to get as strong as they were before. The range of motion in the wrist is fine. Now its just a matter of working out and getting the muscles back, so it is good sign.”
Are you worried you won’t be ready for 2008?
“No. By the time I get to camp, which is about a month away, I think I should be 100 percent healthy. Even if I am not 100 percent, by the time the games start I think (the wrist) will be fine anyway. It shouldn’t affect me at all.”
Is the team getting pumped up for the new ball park?
“Oh yeah. We are excited and I am a sure the fans are excited too. It is a new chapter. I think RFK Stadium did a great job getting baseball back in this city. Now with the fan base that we have the city is really excited. (The new stadium) should be a good way to show off the new team that we got. Hopefully this year, and for years to come, we can have some playoff baseball and things like that for the city to be excited about.”
