ORIOLES ADD GIVEAWAY NIGHTS TO '08 PROMOTIONS SCHEDULE
The Orioles have added three giveaway nights to their 2008 promotional calendar and announced plans to celebrate the 1979 American League Championship team on June 13, the first day of their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
This season marks the first year the Pirates and Orioles will play in Baltimore since they met in the 1979 World Series. On Friday, June 13, the Orioles will host a 1979 Turn Back the Clock Celebration at Oriole Park to honor the '79 American League Champions. Manager EARL WEAVER and 3B DOUG DeCINCES, whose home run that season gave birth to the phrase "Orioles Magic," will participate in a pre-game ceremony prior to that night's 7:05 p.m. game. Current Orioles players and coaches will wear '79 throwback uniforms for the game, and a post-game fireworks display, presented by Bank of America, will take place following the game.
The Orioles also announced that in honor of Father's Day, on Sunday, June 15 the first 10,000 men 21 and older attending the 1:35 p.m. game against the Pittsburgh Pirates will receive an Orioles Golf Umbrella, courtesy of AT&T.
Two days later, on Tuesday, June 17, the first 10,000 fans 15 & over attending the 7:05 p.m. game against the Houston Astros will receive a Wild Bill Hagy t-shirt in honor of the late Orioles superfan. June 17 marks the anniversary of Hagy's birthday, and Hagy's friends and supporters will join the Orioles in honoring him throughout the game. The shirt will feature the number 34, which was the number of the section in the upper deck at Memorial Stadium from which Hagy led "O-R-I-O-L-E-S" cheers.
On Wednesday, July 23, the Orioles will hold a 1983 Turn Back the Clock celebration to honor the 25th anniversary of the World Series championship team. As part of the festivities that night, the first 25,000 fans attending the 7:05 p.m. game against the Toronto Blue Jays will receive a 25th Anniversary World Series pennant.
