Baseball losses trivial compared to some of life's losses
The Orioles were never in the game last night as they lost 8-0 to the NY Yankees. It was a tough night for Garret Olson who struggled through 2.2 IP and gave up 6 runs. It was a hole the Orioles just couldn't climb out of.
Bad nights in baseball, however, seem so trivial when you hear about real life tragedies like that of O's reliever Dennis Sarfate.
Last night had to be an emotional outing for Sarfate who is from Queens, NY. His family was in attendance, but you know his mind had to be on his cousin Vincent.
Vincent Cangelosi was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Cangelosi was an employee of Cantor Fitzgerald and was on the 105th floor of Tower 1 when the planes hit. He was recently married and just 30-years old.
Sarfate has said he looked forward to coming to Baltimore so he could play the Yankees at home in NY. Last night, he got his chance and threw 2.1 scoreless innings while striking out 4. One has to believe his cousin was watching from above.

Yes, and I'm sure his cousin would be proud. This is just how games go sometimes...we are doing better than probably anyone expected this year. I'm watching Brian Burress right now, striking out practically everybody and a 1-1 tie.
9-11 still affects so many of us. More than 6 years ago, and it still hasn't lost its meaning; at least I don't think so. I didn't even lose anyone in the Towers, and I still have a heavy heart for all those that lost loved ones there. I can remember the day it happened and where I was and everything. For Sarfate to have to pitch and do pretty well had to have meant everything to him, as you said in your report a few minutes ago.
Most of us O's fans have a respectful hatred towards the New York Yankees. But as for the city of New York, I'm sure the hearts of each of us is still heavy...no matter what happens in the world of sports, as you stated.
