Chad Cordero out for season
Just when the Nationals didn't think things could get worse, they did. Closer Chad Cordero will undergo season-ending surgery for a torn right labrum on his shoulder.
Cordero had been in Viera, Fla., on a rehab assignment and recently began throwing off the mound. He told Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden that he was in the best shape of his life. The Nationals were hopeful he would return after the All-Star break.
Because of the latest set-back, Cordero will fly to California to have the surgery. Dr. Lewis Yocum will perform the procedure at an undisclosed time.
Cordero, who has been on the disabled list since May 2, appeared in just six games, posting a 2.08 ERA with no saves.
