NATIONALS RECALL TYLER CLIPPARD
Following tonight's game, the Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Tyler Clippard from Triple-A Columbus, and placed left-handed pitcher Odalis Perez on the 15-day Disabled List with left shoulder tendinitis (retroactive to June 4). Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made this announcement.
Clippard, 23, is scheduled to make the start in Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. He walked four and recorded six strikeouts in the spot start, then was optioned to Columbus following the game. Clippard is 4-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 12 starts at Triple-A. He recorded 59 strikeouts and issued 25 bases on balls in 60.2 innings, while holding opponents to a .221 batting average.
Perez, 30, is 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA in 13 starts this season. He made his last start on June 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
