Jones plays tough through injuries and never forgets his manners
| | Comments (1)

Adam Jones is playing banged up.

His ankle is sore after rolling it while running the bases on Friday, and his tailbone is sore from slamming into the centerfield wall yesterday; but he's still playing at the same level he did when he wasn't hurt.

Jones is pretty tough.

I really like this kid. His makeup is amazing, not only physically, but mentally as well. I'm amazed at his ability to let things go. He's very positive; he makes mistakes and he moves on. He's also very willing to learn from anybody older and more experienced than him. He's like a sponge bouncing around the clubhouse. He's going to be a big star.

My only problem with him...he calls me Miss Theoharis. For the record, I'm only seven years older than him.

Forgive me, Amber...butttt....this is actually your fault that he calls you "Miss Theoharis". That's kind of funny actually. But take a look back at what you said. Your words were, "I really like this kid." Kid.

And then I just remember one past blog, "Luck, Karma, and Injuries..." In referencing Jeremy Guthrie, you also said in your first paragraph, "This kid just can't get a break." Kid.

What's funny about Guthrie is that he's even closer to your age than Adam is. My wife asked how old I thought you were, and after reading that, I naturally thought you were at least in your lower 30s...not because of looks, but just because of saying "kid". Then of course I found out you're just a few months shy of 30. I know it's just an expression, but you know how it's easier to take it. Actually, Jeremy is 29, the same age as me. So the next time I ask for an autograph, I'll make it a point for you to hear me say, "HI, MISS THEOHARIS...CAN HAVE ANOTHER AUTOGRAPH, MISS THEOHARIS? OH, THANK YOU, MISS THEOHARIS!!"

Of course you know I don't mean any harm, and I'm just giving you a little grief, you know I'm one of your biggest fans. The truth is, it's a rare thing nowadays to see players with manners like that. We see so many people in this day an age that have no respect at all for others, let alone manners. Granted, those that aren't old as Jim Palmer (haha), don't really mind NOT being called "Mr." or "Miss". But it's good to have somebody with that kind of respect on our team. Respect like that to me goes a long way. I know it does with you too, even though "Miss" is probably better left unsaid. When you look at players in baseball today, you think more Manny Ramirez and his physical altercation with the Red Sox secretary about some tickets and even Milton Bradley's attempt at approaching a radio commentator for some negative comments than you do of a person with respect and manners like Adam Jones. It's good that you noticed that, but too many of us are more concerned with Manny and Milton to acknowledge much of good behavior.

Anyway, sorry for long response, Miss Theoharis. And thank you again for reading, Miss Theoharis. (I probably shouldn't ask for that autograph any time soon, huh?)
