Casto willing to accept any role with the Nationals
Kory Casto is willing to do anything to remain with the Nationals and not return to Triple-A Columbus. Casto was originally called up on June 3rd, when Ryan Zimmerman went on the disabled list with a small labral tear in his left shoulder. Casto filled in at third base.
He was optioned back to Columbus on July 3rd when Austin Kearns was recalled and reinstated from the DL. Just five day later, on July 8th, Casto was recalled when Elijah Dukes tore up his knee and he's been with the Nationals ever since, filling in in the outfield.
Now that Zimmerman is back and healthy, Willie Harris has been consistent in the outfield and Elijah Dukes is due back in the next week or so, Casto is working out at first base. Manager Manny Acta said he will use Casto there to "get him some at bats".
I spoke to Casto about playing first and what the difference is from one side of the infield to the other.
