Cintron's day in Bowie
| | Comments (0)

O's infielder Alex Cintron, out since July first with a left hamstring strain, began a minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday when he played short and went 1-2 at Bowie.

"It was good to get at bats and try and get my timing back. First time I struck out but then I singled over shortstop."

Cintron will play Saturday and Sunday for Frederick and next Tuesday and Wednesday for Bowie. He is hopeful of rejoining the Orioles next Friday in Seattle.

"I feel great today, the leg is fine. I'll take groundballs and BP today and hopefully still feel good."

Cintron talked about his brief return to the minor leagues.

"You really appreciate the big leagues even more. The infields are hard and makes the ball bounce funny, it can be tough. But it was good to see the guys working hard to come here. I see where Lou Montanez is having a good year. Some of the kids asked me a lot of questions. They took about five of my bats, but I'm happy to help those guys."

Cintron has made 17 starts at short for the Orioles and is batting .275-1-7 in 69 at bats over 26 games.
