Dmitri Young on 15-Day DL, Zimmerman to return Tuesday
Following tonight's game, the Washington Nationals placed first baseman Dmitri Young on the 15-Day Disabled List (retroactive to July 12) while he attempts to stabilize his diabetes. The team is expected to recall third baseman Ryan Zimmerman from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus and reinstate him from the Disabled List on Tuesday. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made this announcement.
Young, 34, has batted .280 with six doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI in 50 games this season. He has a .394 on-base percentage, supported by 42 hits, 28 walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Zimmerman, 23, is scheduled to complete his rehab assignment with Columbus tomorrow. He batted .278 with 11 doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI in 50 games with the Nationals, before going on the 15-Day Disabled List on June 3 (retroactive to May 26) with a small labral tear in his left shoulder.
