Estrada released to make room for Milledge
Catcher Johnny Estrada was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for center-fielder Lastings Milledge, who will come the disabled list on Friday and join the team in Los Angeles.
Estrada, who was reinstated from the DL on July 18, got caught up in a numbers game with the team carrying four catchers. Estrada missed 61 games with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow.
Estrada has 10 days to be either traded or claimed off waivers. Once those 10 days are up, Estrada could be released or outrighted to the Minor Leagues. According to several sources, Estrada will not report to the minors.
Estrada had just two hits in 14 at bats since coming off the DL and was batting .170 in 23 games on the season.
