Is Felipe Lopez on his way out?
When the Nationals acquired shortstop Alberto Gonzalez before the trade deadline on Thursday and acquired Emilio Bonifacio from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Jon Rauch on July 22nd, it leaves infielder Felipe Lopez in flux.
Lopez, who is having the worst season of his career, hitting .231 with two home runs and 25 RBI in 99 games, has been known to give less than 100% and has been in the Nationals doghouse on more than one occasion for lack of hustle.
Prior to Thursday night's series finale with the Phillies, Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden was asked where Lopez fits in with the Nationals because of the recent acquisitions and he said, "No comment."
Lopez, when asked to respond to Bowden's comments, had this to say:
