Nationals Reinstate RF Austin Kearns from 15-day DL
The Washington Nationals today recalled from rehab and reinstated right fielder Austin Kearns from the 15-Day Disabled List, and optioned infielder/outfielder Kory Casto to Columbus of the Triple-A International League. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.
The 28 year-old Kearns hit .412 (7-for-17) with a double, triple, homer, seven RBI, six walks and four runs scored during a seven-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus (five games) and Single-A Potomac (two). Washington's Opening Night right fielder, Kearns was placed on the 15-Day DL (right elbow) on May 22. One day later, on May 23, Kearns had successful arthroscopic surgery performed on his right elbow to remove loose bodies. Although he is batting just .187 (18-for-150) this season, Kearns is a career .261 hitter with 142 doubles, 98 home runs and 389 RBI in 718 games with Washington and Cincinnati.
Casto, 26, hit .180 (9-for-50) with two doubles, one homer and seven RBI in 23 games for Washington.
