Nats Select Ryan Langerhans from Columbus
The Washington Nationals today selected outfielder Ryan Langerhans from Triple-A Columbus, and optioned outfielder Roger Bernadina to Columbus. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made this announcement.
Langerhans, 28, rejoins the Nationals after batting .319 (22-for-69) with six doubles, two triples, seven RBI and five stolen bases during an 18-game stint with the Clippers. For the season, he has hit Triple-A pitching at a .310 clip with 16 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 31 RBI, 40 walks and 12 stolen bases in 62 games. He leads the International League with a .418 on-base percentage, and his .310 batting average is tied for third-best among qualifying players in the circuit.
In 23 games with Washington this season, Langerhans has batted .200 (6-for-30) with four walks, three RBI and two stolen bases. He has gone 2-for-7 with one walk and one RBI as a pinch hitter. Langerhans has batted a combined .232 with 45 doubles, eight triples, 21 home runs, 96 RBI, six stolen bases and a .328 on-base percentage over six major league seasons.
Bernadina, 24, batted .125 (5-for-40) and scored two runs in 10 games with the Nationals.
