Orioles 4th-round pick injured
The Orioles' fourth-round pick in June's First-Year Player Draft, outfielder Kyle Hudson, recently suffered a broken hand and will miss at least a month and possibly the rest of the season.
Hudson, a left-handed hitter with good speed out of the University of Illinois, was playing with Aberdeen. He injured his right hand sliding into second on a steal attempt on July 4th.
With Aberdeen, Hudson was hitting .216-0-5 in 11 games with 8 hits in 37 at bats.
It's a blow to an IronBirds team that has been struggling to score runs. Hudson was the highest 2008 pick on Aberdeen's roster. If Hudson can't return to play for the IronBirds this summer, he will probably play in instructional league this fall.
In college in 2008, the 5'11", 165-pound Hudson batted .398-1-26 and stole 40 of 49 bases.
The Orioles' second and third-round picks, Xavier Avery and L.J. Hoes are playing in the Gulf Coast League, and their top pick, pitcher Brian Matusz out of the University of San Diego has yet to sign a contract.
