Young lands on DL, Zimmerman to be reinstated [link]

Honor Roll
RHP Craig Stammen was named Bank of America Pitcher of the Week in the Double-A Eastern League for the period of July 7-13. Stammen went 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in 2 starts with the Senators to earn the honor. Since being promoted from Potomac on June 21, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 5 starts with Harrisburg.

Prior to making the jump to Double-A, he went 4-2 with one save and a 2.21 ERA in 15 games, 9 starts with Potomac. Stammen is a combined 6-3 with a 2.08 ERA in 21 games, 14 starts, overall with Columbus, Harrisburg and Potomac.

Last week I told you that third baseman Leonard Davis was promoted to Triple-A Columbus by tearing up pitching at the Double-A and Single-A levels. Because of his hot hitting, Davis was selected as the Single-A Carolina League's Topps Player of the Month for June. Davis hit .407 with 28 runs scored, 6 home runs and 16 RBI in 27 games with Potomac to earn the honor. Since his promotion to Columbus on July 10th, Davis has struggled in his eight games with the Clippers. He has just four hits in 33 at bats, a .121 average. Overall, Davis is batting a combined .339 with 18 home runs, 47 RBI, a .410 OBP and a .603 slugging percentage in 77 games this season.

Minor League Notes:

Triple-A Columbus International League West Division
54-46, 3rd place, 3 ½ games behind
The Clippers went 2-2 this past week and lost a half game in the standings. Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman spent four days with the Clippers during his rehab assignment and homered in his final game on Sunday; nevertheless, Columbus got waxed 11-2. Zimmerman will join the Nationals in San Francisco on Tuesday.

RHP Garrett Mock, representing the Clippers in last Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star game, pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief and gave up one hit in the International League's 6-5 set-back. The Clippers welcome the first place Pawtucket Red Sox to Cooper Stadium on Monday to begin a 4-game series.

Double-A Harrisburg Senators Eastern League Southern Division
56-42, 2nd place, 5 games out of first
The Senators went 3-1 this past week, and picked up 1 ½ games in the standings, but didn't pick up any ground on first place Akron.

Harrisburg's roster has gone through a lot of changes since Thursday. Infielders Luis Jimenez and William Bergolla were transferred to Triple-A Columbus, and RHP Carlos Martinez was transferred to Advanced-A Potomac. LHP Tim Bittner and INF Ofilio Castro return from Columbus while RHP Jhonny Nunez makes his Double-A debut after being added from Potomac.

Single-A Potomac Nationals Carolina League Northern Division
16-12, 1st place, ½ game lead (2nd half)
The P-Nats had Sunday off and get ready to host Southern Division leader Kinston in a 4-game series beginning Monday night. Last week, Potomac went 3-2, remained in first place in the division and held a two game lead over Lynchburg.

Outfielder Boomer Whiting, who joined the P-Nats on July 10th, is bating a robust .364 with a homer, 4 RBI, 8 runs and four stolen bases in his first nine games. Whiting had his 7-game hitting streak snapped on Saturday, going 0-4. Also tearing the cover off the ball is new addition, shortstop Dan Lyons. In 18 games, Lyons is batting .321 with seven extra base hits and 12 RBI; however, he's been a bit shaky on defense, committing five errors.

Single-A Hagerstown Suns South Atlantic League Northern Division
14-16, 4th place, 7 games out of first (2nd Half)
The Suns jumped up to fourth place in the division, but only picked up a ½ game in the standings. They are riding a 3-game winning streak after Sunday's 4-1 win at Greenville.

Hassan Pena tossed six scoreless innings of four-hit ball to earn his second win of the season. Newly promoted left-fielder, Jesus Valdez went 3-3 and blasted his first home run of the season. Their 4-game series continues Monday night. The most consistent player this year has been catcher Sean Rooney. Rooney, a South Atlantic League All-Star selection, is hitting .328 with 20 RBI in 53 games this season.

Short-Season Single-A Vermont Lake Monsters
New York-Penn League Stedler Division
15-14, 2nd place, ½ game back

The Lake Monsters have lost four straight games to fall out of first place in the division, but have been rained out the last three days, marking the first time in Vermont's 15-year history that the team has been rained out three straight days. The Lake Monsters and Oneonta Tigers will try and play a doubleheader on Monday beginning at 6:00 p.m., while the two teams will now also play a doubleheader on September 1st when Vermont returns to Oneonta for a three-game series.

Vermont's Brad Peacock, who has been scheduled to start for Vermont the last three nights, has not started a game since July 11th at Mahoning Valley. Peacock and Will Atwood are scheduled to start for the Lake Monsters in the doubleheader on Monday, weather permitting of course. Vermont (15-14) and Oneonta (16-14) are separated by one-half game for first-place in the Stedler Division.

Gulf Coast League Nationals
Gulf Coast League East Division
11-11, 2nd Place, 4 ½ games out of first

The Nationals have won two straight games to keep pace with the first place Dodgers. Outfielder J.R. Higley, who had hit safely in his first 11 games as a professional, went 3-3 with two doubles and two RBI on Sunday, in the Nationals 9-6 win over the Cardinals. He's batting .362 with six doubles and six RBI, in 15 games this season. Reliever Paul Demny pitched two innings to pick up his first win of the year and Federico Tanco tossed two scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season. The Nationals play a double-header with the first place Dodgers on Monday.
