Busy day for Aquino
| | Comments (8)

Apparently, a healthy Greg Aquino didn't interest the Orioles.

The Orioles made three moves with Aquino today. They returned him from his rehab assignment, activated him from the disabled list and designated him for assignment.

By doing so, the Orioles have created room on their 40-man roster.

Aquino, winner of this year's Heathcliff Slocumb Award (Or is it Jim Brower? Or Mike DeJean? Or Steve Reed? I keep forgetting) gave up 13 earned runs in 9 1/3 innings with the Orioles. He didn't allow a run during his rehab assignment, and the only two hits he surrendered came last night at Double-A Bowie, when he escaped a two-on, no-out jam.

george--Right you are, there have been a lot of folks all year on the blog who seem to delight in putting Jay Payton down. Jay has played hard all year, busting his butt down the line on every grounder; he's had key hits; he's made some fine catches; and he's been a positive role model for Adam Jones.

I'm an Oriole fan who says "Thank you, Jay."

George,

Payton has been solid and sometimes outstanding in center. He's caught everything he's gotten to. But Jones is mercurial and smooth as silk to watch. Maybe I'm wrong, but I honestly believe playing center tires Jay out sometimes to the point of affecting his offense. Still, as a temporary replacement for Adam, he's been worth his weight in gold.

Good eye...but it wasn't a MASN shirt. Just plain red. But that's close enough! - Roch

A late post regarding earlier comments:
Don't see why folks pile-on Jay Payton. He's no Adam Jones, but he was never expected to be. Looks like he's done a decent job to me. Looks like his heart has been in it.

Roch,
do u know why fios does not have MASNHD?

I'm sorry, I don't. Way out of my department. But the MASN folks read this blog and the comments, so hopefully we'll get an answer. - Roch

roch,
Does that mean they took him off the 40 man roster and is just in aa right now?

They have 10 days to trade him, or they can outright him or release him. No matter what, he's off the 40 man. - Roch

ROCH,

Is sept 1st the last day u can call up players?
is it when u set your 40 man roster and can't make any more changes?
how many more roster spots on the 40 are there?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Players can be called up after Sept. 1. Kam Mickolio will report on Sept. 2, after Norfolk's season ends. I believe the Orioles are at 39 with Aquino being designated for assignment. - Roch

So Greg Aquino bids adieu to the Orioles?
