Boone close to returning, Gonzalez expected to go on DL
Aaron Boone is close to returning to the Nationals and when that happens, expect the team to put shortstop Alberto Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list.
Boone, who has been on the DL since July 10th, retroactive to July 7th, with a left calf strain, has been with Triple-A Columbus the past two days. He is hitless in six at bats with the Clippers.
Boone originally injured his calf jogging out of the dugout to pinch-run for Dmitri Young on July 6th at Cincinnati. Manager Manny Acta and Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden have both said Boone is close to returning.
Gonzalez hasn't played since suffering a left glute contusion against the Rockies on August 4th. Gonzalez was injured in the fourth inning when he slid hard into third base. He stayed in the game, but was taken out two innings later.
In four games with the Nationals, Gonzalez was hitting .462, six hits in 13 at bats, with three doubles and two walks. Gonzalez, according to Acta, will be available to the team until Boone returns, but he hasn't seen any action in the last eight games.
