Did you know...
...that on this day in 1938, Lou Gehrig hit his 23rd and last grand slam, a record that still stands today?
Orioles manager Dave Trembley said choosing a closer "will depend on the situation." Jim Johnson appears to be getting first crack at the job, but Trembley is hesitant to make that designation.
"Obviously, Johnson is a guy that figures very prominently into getting those opportunities, but in all honesty, I don't really want to get locked into naming a closer on this team while Sherrill is out," Trembley said. "I'll play it game by game and situation by situation, and (Rick) Kranitz and I will talk to that person before the game and let him know who that person will be."
Talking more specifically about Johnson in that role, Trembley said, "I don't think Johnson has to change one darn bit. I think he proved what kind of makeup he had when he came up here earlier in the season and I brought him in in the middle of innings. I brought him in with guys on base. I think he faced every situation he possibly could for a guy who never pitched out of the bullpen at this level. So I don't think there's anything he needs to do differently as far as his makeup is concerned. I think Johnson just needs to be himself. He's a power pitcher who sinks the fastball and is not afraid to pitch inside. Mentally, I think his attributes are such that he's already shown what he's all about."

yeah manny is sitting at 20 and eddie finished with 19
However, Denny's disputes this record.

I know Eddie Murray came reasonably close to Gehrig. Isn't Manny Ramirez getting close as well?
The way the Orioles are playing now you may not need a closer until George comes back.
