Fishing for predictions on Waters
Kyle Boller will start Thursday's exhibition game against the New England Patriots. But don't read anything into it. Head coach John Harbaugh is going with the most experienced quarterback on his roster for the opener - and the prettiest.
I asked the over-under question about Dennis Sarfate last night. I'll do the same for Chris Waters.
How many innings will the Orioles get out of Waters tonight? And will Hayden Penn eventually be replacing Sarfate or Waters?
Meanwhile, still no annoucement on Lou Montanez's addition to the 25-man roster and Adam Jones' move to the disabled list. But it's coming.

Doesn't matter how many innings he goes. He shouldn't be here. If he's not in your future plans why are we wasting time.
Why isn't Montanez in the lineup. He's hot. let him play!
Waters goes 4.2 and gives up three earned and a cautious Dave Trembley goes and gets him. He leaves with the Orioles in the lead, but the middle relief gives it up.
Waters goes 5 1/3. Gives up 4 earned.
Roch, it's good to have you back.
No more them 3 it's time to do something about sarfate he's not getting the job done
Roch, HD? Howard Co.? Verizon Fios? in '08?
5 innings of Waters... not a hard choice, don't they all go 5 except for one guy?
Sarfate has no options left so he isn't sent down or DFS, not this close to Sept anyway.... he goes back to the pen & Penn is brought up. One of the lesser lights in the pen goes down...
Waters goes 3.1, gives up 4, and leaves 2 on (2nd and 3rd).
Waters goes 4.1, Cormier comes in as the Bridge over Troubled Waters, Markakis bangs a 2-run double to put the Birds ahead, and Mora saves the game on a lunging grab over the bag at third.
3.2 innings - I don't know a thing about Waters but the Angels are a patient team and will wait for a Phat pitch to drive.
Does Rice get the bulk of the load Thursday and will McGahee play at all?
I found you Kunta Kinte,,,,,,,, er,,,,, I mean Roch.
I now have much more appreciation for what you do Roch. Mr.Schmuck is a fine journalist I'm sure, but he doesn't seem to have your unique skill set when it comes to this sort of thing.
As for the starter du jour, I think if he goes five innings, Trembly will kiss him on the mouth.
I'll go high and say Waters will make it 6 innings, giving up 4 and leaving 2 men on when he leaves.
I give him 2
I'd say 3, maybe 4. I think he'll give up a few runs and end up being taken out with men on base. I do hope this isn't the case and we can get a strong 5 or 6 out of him.
At what point does the Orioles brass start making smart decisions and bench people like Penn and Burgeson when we are in need of starting pitching?
Four innings for Waters.
Somebody needs to replace Sarfate, be it Waters, Penn or one of the other not-ready-for-prime-time players. His delivery is too labored and control too spotty to be a starter. I wish he had an option to go back to the minors and become a pitcher rather than a thrower.
I'll go for 4 2/3 out of Waters tonight. Neither Waters nor Sarfate will last long in the rotation, but Sarfate's leash is already tighter, so Penn replaces him as early as the next time through the rotation.
saying 5 or maybe hoping is the more appropriate word
I'll offer up an optimistic (or delusional) 5.2 innings.
Anything so I won't have to think about Hayden Penn...there must be someone else to replace Sarfate.I'd vote for Bergesen.
I would not like to see Hayden Penn make a start since he has not really earned it. Regardless of Waters being a journeyman, let him start a few games and give our prospects time in the minors and bring them up when they DESERVE to be here. I'm excited to see what Montanez can do...but only bring him up if he's going to get the chance to start.
Rumors, rumors. I have the absolute skinny on all this confusion.
ESPN just reported that MacPhail is in behind-the-door discussions with the Packers, and Wendi Nix saw Favre working out from the set position at Green Bay HS bullpen. Worse yet, Matt Weiters was seen shopping for shoulder pads at Dick's.
Everyone take a breath and pray for a solution to the SS situation.
I predict that both Penn and Bergeson are used in place of Sarfate and Waters. Penn will stay for good in my opinion, either as starter or long reliever. I keep wanting to see Sarfate as a starter because he has electric stuff. But, I think he'll need one solid outing to build his confidence. It's good to see him throw well on the side between starts, and do remember- Joba had a rough transition to the starters role also. I say give him two-three more starts, have cormier to back him up and let him go. Showing him they have confidence to send him to the hill with a chance to win will be great for him in my own opinion.
they get 3.1
this site STILL isn't remembering my "personal info."
I say 5 innings and Hayden Penn will replace Sarfate within his next two starts.
One question you can pass along to the kind folks at MASN:
Can they fix the "Remember personal info?" effect?
It's quite annoying to type the info over and over again.
On another note - I already mentioned this but I would say Waters goes 5 innings, and barely makes the 6th. At the same time, he walks 2 and gives up 3 runs.
