Injured Key
Jake Renshaw, acquired in the Steve Trachsel trade with the Chicago Cubs, went on Single-A Frederick's disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow.
Renshaw is 9-11 with a 5.11 ERA in 27 games (25 starts). He's walked 57 and struck out 96 in 135 2/3 innings.
In his last start, Renshaw allowed seven earned runs and six hits, wtih four walks, in 4 1/3 innings.
Here's what manager Dave Trembley said about pitcher Dennis Sarfate earlier today:
"I always thought he was a bullpen guy. I thought what we did for him was to help him be a better bullpen guy by starting him. That's what we did. Just like you do in the minor leagues when you take guys that are your best arms and you make them starters, that doesn't mean when they get to the big leagues they're going to be starters. But you're just getting them experience and exposure and you make them use all their pitches and you stretch them out, and that's the same thing we did with Sarfate.
"I think the one thing that's happened with Sarfate, it would appear to me, is he sure looks a whole lot more relaxed out on the mound. He sure looks a whole lot more confident out on the mound than he did before. When he was starting before, he was excitable. He wanted to do so well, I think he went beyond his limits. He sure looks a lot more under control and confident. He's throwing as hard, but it's not so much maximum effort, and the ball's coming out of his hand a little easier."

Roch,
Off topic (but does anyone ever go back to on-topic threads?), regarding Dave T.'s explantation of not bringing up Matt Weiters- 'he needs to work with advanced pitching', or something similar.
Upon reflection, I tend to agree - he certainly will not work with advanced pitching in Camden Yards, with maybe one or two exceptions, so I will change my opinion that he should get the MLB experience via a Sep. callup.
Hey, I woulda taken Cormier too, Lindsay! Kevin's not exactly enamoring himself with me with all of these pop-ups and whatnot.
I think I may need to take a vacation day just to catch up with all of your posts. I don't have internet access at work (I know!!!!) but I do get MASN, until they black out live games...
Trembley's quote about Sarfate? I need a flow chart to follow that mess. I'm quite surprised he didn't have an extra "I have no explanation for that" to throw in there. If it wasn't 10:30am when we were watching the replay at work today, I'd have recommended a drinking game involving each time he threw that phrase out there.
It's not the same with piping hot Starbucks. Owie.
Why Cormier deserves a win today:
At the game yesterday, I donated $5 to the MD Food Bank drive, and Kellye Lynn from WJZ offered me my choice of two autographed pictures [Millar or Cormier] asking, "Would you like Kevin Millar or uh...this guy?"
