Kam can (updated with Sherrill stuff)
| | Comments (8)

The Orioles will bring up Kam Mickolio from Triple-A Norfolk tomorrow. I've got two people confirming it.

A second move could come Friday, when the Orioles need a starter.

Team president Andy MacPhail indicated tonight that he wouldn't hesitate to bring up a pitcher or position player from Double-A Bowie if they would fill a need on the major league club. That gives hope to Baysox starter Brad Bergesen, but MacPhail could decide on Radhames Liz, who would be working on five days' rest if handed the ball on Friday. Bergesen would be working on normal rest after making his last start on Sunday.

Garrett Olson could return to Norfolk as the corresponding roster move.

Manager Dave Trembley appears ready to give Jim Johnson the first crack at closing in George Sherrill's absence.

Sherrill said his left shoulder was bothering him for the last week, starting out as "a little tendinitis thing," but it "just exploded" on Monday.

The MRI brought some comfort.

"It's a relief that it's not something structural," he said. "We'll just rehab it and get back as soon as possible."

Sherrill obviously was worried that he was dealing with something more serious.

"Anything involving a shoulder could go either way, so there's a lot of stuff up there that can go wrong," he said. "It could be career-ending. It's a relief that it is nothing serious."

Sherrill expects to be ready to come off the disabled list when eligible.

"Yeah I think so," he said. "I got a (cortisone) shot in it. That will take about a week, and then another week I'll be ready."

Asked if throwing 2 1/3 innings in the All-Star Game was a contributing factor in his injury, Sherrill said: "It probably was another step in the process." He also cited having thrown more innings this season than the previous two.

Trembley recommends a re-entry rule for the All-Star Game if a player is injured. That's one way to prevent a roster shortage.

Shields beat Shields tonight in the Rays-Angels game. That's James Shields getting the win, and Scot Shields the loss.

Ryan McCarthy hit his fifth home run tonight for Single-A Frederick, but the Keys lost to Lynchburg, 5-4, in 10 innings.

It appears that Bowie starter David Hernandez was removed after four innings because he reached his pitch count. At least, that's the early word.

hey roch what about bring up Zachary Clark for the start instead of Liz not that i dont like liz but his first year number prove that he will be another Carlos Marmol i think. Also Clark has been a spot startert pretty much for all the other 4 levels why not see what he can do at the 5th level. But Right now he is with Bowie so he wouldnt get broken up from them could he?

Roch....people love you in B-More. We glad to have you closer to the O's. Many in Baltimore sleep, eat, and die with the Orioles. We are just waiting for anther title shot, so that we can die in peace. Well, many have died during the past 10-years with the team finishing near the bottom. Just imagine how many babies would be born during an Orioles playoff run, go figure?

Roch...thanks for the constant entries. Does MASN supply you with free Red Bull or something?

Roch-
Let me get your opinion. The O's are probably going to need a veteran pitcher to add to the rotation next year. Would you rather have Sheets and spend that kind of money or, take a high risk high reward guy like Bartolo Colon? He is sorta healthy this year and it may be a kind of bargain.
Also, how excited are you to see if Bergeson or D Hernandez can put a couple good starts together for the O's this season. I hope Tillman makes the team out of spring training or maybe by May.
It could be Sheets-Guts-Cabrera(cuz you know they are gonna keep him)-Tillman-Bergeson or Guts-Colon-Bergeson-Tillman-Hernandez with Arrietta and Matusz among others in the hole.

I'd rather have Sheets, but I've always enjoyed spending other people's money. - Roch

Is that like Port or Starboard?

Thanks. You have saved my wife from leaving me. For now.

I'm real happy now, can you tell.

The next time you come to Myrtle Beach, look me up.

I have some land I want to show you.

If the move is indeed Mickolio, the O's have another move to make because he is not yet on the 40 man roster. If Albers, Ray, and Jones are coming back, they can't be moved to the 60 day DL, so the only other options are moving Aquino to the 60 day DL, or one of the injured minor leaguers, Penn or Moore could be placed on the 60 day, but do you see this happening? The only other option is to release someone or try to pass someone through, but that would scare me. The same thing Friday. If Olson goes down and Liz comes up, that works, but Bergesen is not on the 40 man roster. Again, it would take another move.

This same problem comes up with many of the potential September callups that have been mentioned. Most of these guys simply are not on the 40 man roster and other moves would need to be made. What do you think?

The move is, indeed, Mickolio. I wouldn't steer you wrong. But I don't know what the 40-man move will be. - Roch

Ok, "man up" and admit it said right shoulder and I'll shut up. My wife is questioning my sanity. Like thats a change.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I already did. I said I had a brain cramp and once it subsided, I changed it to "left." I'm surprised you're the only one who noticed. Or maybe you're the only one who pointed it out. But yes, I accidentally wrote "right" and then changed it later. - Roch
