Mel-Mo
That nickname can belong to only one Oriole. And he's absolutely on fire right now.
Melvin Mora homered twice and finished with five hits and a career-high six RBIs, but he wasn't perfect. The guy had two chances to hit for the cycle, needing only a triple, and the best he could do was a double and home run.
Pretty lame.
Maybe he needs a day off.
Luke Scott also homered twice, raising his total to 21.
Miguel Tejada has 12, in case you haven't been keeping track.
The Orioles have scored 10 or more runs in three of their last four games. And nobody is calling for hitting coach Terry Crowley's head anymore.
If they had decent starting pitching - just decent, nothing more - they'd be climbing up the standings. Or if they could find a way to clone Jeremy Guthrie, or get him to start every game...
The Orioles also won their first Sunday road game, having been 0-10 before today.
Who had Aug. 17 in the office pool?
Down on the farm, Single-A Frederick's Tim Bascom held Kinston to one run and three hits over six innings, walking one and striking out eight in a 10-5 victory.

I know this may come as a bit of a shock to you, but generally you need 2 catchers on the 25 man roster. Uh yeah I've heard of this kid named Weiters. He'll get his chance in ST. I'm thinking if they get a chance to dump Ramon, then they will need to bring someone in. And no I'm not interested in Quinoz.
A serviceable young catcher? Um. . . yeah I think they might already have one for next year.
Roch,
And you'll notice that none of the "trade Mora" gang have had anything to say....imagine that!
Hey Roch, how many tickets have been sold for Monday night's game against the Red Evil Empire?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The last I heard, they were about 10,000 short of reaching the necessary 43,290.

Not that I'd recommend us going this route, or that MacPhail would even consider, but If I'm going to spend crazy money on 1 FA, it's CC.
That said, O's need to just hang in there with what they have, and finish out the season. If we can come up with an inning eating starter this off season, trade for a young SS prospect, and extend Roberts & Markakis, and may be find a serviceable young catcher, then that's a pretty good winter.
and a .283 avg and 53 rbi. A very average year. Actually, a subpar year for his standards.
I see Bergesen is scheduled to pitch tonight. Scratch him, please! And, I think we need to get scientists to clone Guthrie because we really really need some good pitching. We're only 3 games under .500, and wasn't that our goal? To get to .500?
Well, we're there, and we need to call-up pitchers. Let's say, oh, how about Brad Bergesen? He's absolutely warranted for a call-up about right now.
It's just so strange that in the first half of the season, it was all the pitching, and so-so offense. Now the second half, it's all about the offense and so-so/terrible pitching. Why can't we have them both at the same time for two halves?
But I'm bad at math, too.
