More Montanez
Since enough good things haven't happened to Lou Montanez, he's also been named the Eastern League's Player of the Month for July.
Montanez batted .352 with six doubles, three triples, eight homers, 29 RBIs and 25 runs.
He hit safely in 26 of 30 games.
Montenez was trying to become the first Eastern League player to win the Triple Crown since - wait for it - Danny Thomas with the Berkshire Brewers in 1976.
Danny Thomas?
Feel free to write the joke. I'll sit this one out.
More Montanez: He broke into professional baseball as a shortstop, but don't look for him to return to the position.
"There is zero chance," he said. "It's such a demanding position, you've got to play it for life. You can t just turn on a switch and go back to shortstop. I heard people say Adam Jones used to play shortstop, so play him there. It doesn't work that way. It's probably the most difficult position on the field."
I failed to mention earlier that the Orioles transferred Adam Loewen to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Montanez on the 40-man roster.

Okay, make Waters the #2 starter. Just kidding. But, he has a quiet delivery, has thrown strikes, and is a lot more poised than Sarfate!
Ah, Roch! I found you again. I was having terrible withdrawal reading Schmuck's blog (altho he did chose my post as 'comment of the day' today). Luckily, someone posted a comment on Pete's blog about you having a new blog here...whew! I had to make a move when bob lancione started nuzzling up to Pete. I'll sleep well tonight.
Hey Roch! Since we know Wieters pretty much won't be getting a call up in September, any guesses on who could be?
How about Penn tonight? Nice line for tonight's brief performance.
Go get them sweet Lou !!! Im hoping he can log some innings in CF
Crap... I was going to use Roch's departure to help kick my blog habit, and then I find it here. Congratulations, Roch!
Penn came out after pitching 5 innings giving up 0 runs on 62 pitches. Did he get hurt or is this them being conservative because he may be getting the call up next week?
Roch,
I've never seen you get so excited about a minor league call up. Do you really think Montanez has a chance to be a regular or are you just happy to get a jump on the story with that early interview?
Hey Roch,
How many times am I going to have to hear a variation of "Hernandez on the pitch and
what im trying to ask is do you expect Wieters to get a September call-up?
Adam Jones injury could be a blessing in disguise for Luis Montanez to establish himself as major league player. Being drafted third overall shows that the Cubs and many other teams thought he had talent. Some people blossom later than others. Look at Ryan Ludwick this year. This also opens the door for a Nolan Reimold call up in September. He is finally healthy this year and showing everyone that he is a legitimate prospect. Everyone knows that Adam Jones is going to be a special talent. His injury gives the opportunity for others to get a chance. You are either going to be a 4 A player or a major leaguer. If Montanez or Reimold have a solid performance it could open the opportunity for position on the ball club next year.
Not the best but here goes: THE Danny Thomas was in 1 episode of Happy Days and today is a Happy Day for Lou Montanez
Lou Montanez can make Amber his "That Girl"?
