Nationals still show promise
A lot of Nats fans are disappointed in the season so far, but I feel like there are at least 3 reasons to be excited for the next year.
Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge have proven that they are big league ballplayers. Had it not been for injuries, they would have carried this team on their backs as some sort of dynamic duo.
Lastings has shown growth at the plate over the season and now shows that he can find his pitch and knock it out. He has begun to take charge in the outfield and seems to be comfortable with his position as the future of this team.
Elijah Dukes showed us flashes of an exciting player that plays the game with tremendous passion, something I think this team currently lacks. If he can find a way to play injury-free, I'm sure that we will see him start to realize his full potential that we hear so much about.
Lastly, two young players who have just barely gotten their taste of the bigs, Justin Maxwell and Roger Bernadina, are coming into their own and growing as players.
Had it (once again) not been for injuries, Justin Maxwell would had to have seen time in the bigs; and despite poor performance at the plate, I was impressed with the speed that Bernadina showed on the field and on the base paths. With Bernadina's continued development at the Triple-A level, it cannot be long until he is ready to play with the big boys.
With these young kids showing their talent at every turn, it's hard for a Nats fan not to be excited.
