No Brady in the bunch
The Orioles failed to reach an agreement with Gaithersburg pitcher Kevin Brady, their 44th round pick, by the midnight deadline. He's accepted a scholarship to Clemson University.
"In the end, he said he thought school was what he wanted," said a member of the Orioles' organization.
I watched the replay over and over, and I still can't determine whether Michael Phelps finished first in the 100-meter butterfly. I said, "No," then I said, "Wait...maybe," then I said, "Absolutely," then I changed my mind again.
Down on the farm, Single-A Delmarva's Luis Noel joined teammates Sean Gleason and Zach Britton as 10-game winners by blanking the Savannah Sand Gnats - I'd love to see their mascot - over six innings. He struck out seven.
Anthony Martinez hit his second two-run homer in two nights.
Triple-A Norfolk's Ryan Bukvich also threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
The starting pitching was exceptional last night (except for Single-A Frederick's Brandon Erbe, who surrendered nine runs and seven hits in four innings. I'm trying to be positive here).
Check out Zach Clark at Double-A Bowie. He threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
Look at me, I made it through an entire entry without mentioning Brian Matusz.

Roch, I am with you on the Phelps finish...no matter how many times I look at the TV replays, I cannot decide who finished first, though I would be interested what the high speed camera replays look like.
Guess we have to go with the the touchpad -- afterall, how could it be wrong.
And how about the other American in the race -- he misses out on the bronze by the .01 of a second. So who do you feel worse for -- they guy who gets a silver by that margin or the guy who misses out on a medal?
So did Miclat actually sign? I read last month that he had decided to sign, but I haven't seen his name in any affiliate box scores, so I'm wondering what his story is.
