O's Place Adam Jones on DL with a Fractured Left Foot
The Orioles announced Tuesday afternoon that they have placed OF ADAM JONES on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 3, with a fractured left foot and have selected the contract of OF LUIS MONTANEZ from Double-A Bowie.
To make room for Montanez on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have transferred LHP ADAM LOEWEN (left elbow fracture) from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Montanez, 26, was leading the Eastern League in batting average (.335), home runs (26) and runs batted in (97) at the time of his promotion. He was named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month for July after batting .352 with eight homers and 29 RBI in 30 games.
Montanez was signed by the Orioles as a minor league free agent on January 3, 2008 after splitting the 2007 season between Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk. He was the third player chosen in the 2000 First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs.
