(With apologies to Felix Unger...)

First baseman Oscar Salazar is the only Norfolk Tides representative on the International League's All-Star team. Salazar ranks third in the IL with a .316 average and second with 85 RBIs, to go with his 13 home runs and .423 average against left-handers. He's batting .366 with 19 RBIs this month.

You'll probably be seeing him in Baltimore once rosters expand. And I still think he could be a useful bench player next season, though he's not going to win any Gold Gloves.

Salazar made the Eastern League's All-Star team last year as the Bowie Baysox's third baseman.

Proving again that both sides can get along just fine, and also throw a little love at each other once in a while, the Orioles are hosting a Ravens Rally at Camden Yards on Saturday, Sept. 6, before their 7:05 p.m. game against the Oakland Athletics. The Ravens open their season the following day against the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium, which is why the Orioles also have a 1:05 p.m. game against Oakland on Sept. 6.

If the Orioles really wanted to do something nice, they'd find the Ravens a quarterback.

Anyway, the first 15,000 fans ages 15 and over will receive a limited edition Ravens Rally T-shirt presented by MASN. The shirt features the Oriole Bird carrying a football and wearing a Ravens jersey. (Maybe he can be the quarterback).

Several of the Ravens cheerleaders will be there, as if you needed more incentive. Members of the Marching Ravens will perform on the lower concourse prior to the game.

Ravens President Dick Cass will throw out the ceremonial first pitch (Maybe he can be the quarterback).

"On the eve of our season kickoff, this night will give fans the opportunity to celebrate our two great local sports franchises," Cass said in a statement.

Ravens PSL holders can show their cards at the Camden Yards box office to receive $7 off any regularly priced ticket (up to 8 tickets per card). Non-PSL holders who show pride in their favorite teams will receive $5 off any regularly priced ticket by wearing both Ravens and Orioles articles of clothing.

If you wear boxer shorts with a team logo on it, they'll take your word for it. But try wearing something more visible. It'll save time.

For some reason even though I also grew up in Maryland, I was also a Vikings fan partly due to the purple uniforms, the team name and mainly due to them playing in those snowstorms. I stopped being a fan of them once they moved into that garbage bag of a dome stadium and no longer played in the snow with Bud Grant as coach.

When I was a wee little boy, my parents had ways of shielding me from the vulgarities of life. Once leaving old Memorial Stadium, an angry and drunk fan yelled at another FU. I asked my dad what FU meant and he told me that it stood for Felix Unger, saying that the drunk guy thought the other guy looked looked like a slob and needed to clean up his act. I was young and gullible and said, yea that makes sense.

Maybe D-Cab could be the quarterback?

Interesting... is MASN brokering this long overdue O's-Ravens lovefest? If so, they desrve a little credit. Is the Middle East next?

Dig up John Unitas. OR un-retire Trent Dillfer. Kidding I loved the U and really liked Dillfer. A few friends of mine drove to Richmond got a motel just to see the Colts play a home game, black out here The Packers smashed us Paul Horning scored 4 or 5 TD's that day in the fog. I wonder if rock head, I mean Danny would dominate at Bowie? Na!!

HanoverJoe, good call on D. Cabrera. Speaking of which, we should all drop the "D-Cab" nickname. I'm a firm believe that you should be a good player BEFORE you're worthy of a nickname in the sporting world. We MUST hold a higher standard than those entertainment news idiots who give nicknames to any moron willing to talk to them.

Kevin,

I agree with dropping the "D-Cab" nickname not only because he's not good, but also because the nickname (first initial + first syllable of the last name) is so unoriginal.

If he ever earns a nickname, it should be a good one in the spirit of names like "Vinegar Bend" Mizell or "Live Oak" Taylor. I don't have one in mind, but I'm open to suggestions.

Hey, Herbert,

I was at that Packers game in the fog. Unitas was hurt to start with, Gary Cuozzo got nailed and separated his shoulder right in front of us in the closed end of Memorial's horseshoe and Tom Matte filled in by reading the plays off his wristband, remember?

Hornung scored five TDs, but I also think Lenny Moore ran nearly the whole field to catch a Packer d-back who had intercepted a pass and nearly scored. But that might have been against the Lions.

In any case, that game was a huge bummer, but also unforgettable and well worth driving to Richmond to watch, though better, of course, in person.

Daniel Cabrera: that's your Ravens QB.

Well, Cabrera (not using the now-banished nickname) is good at hitting people between the numbers...
