Pre-game news and notes
Closer George Sherrill underwent an MRI on his left shoulder at 1 p.m. today. The club expects to receive the results before the game. In the meantime, there's no way for manager Dave Trembley to know whether Sherrill is available tonight.
I'm guessing not.
Any chance the extended appearance in the All-Star Game is causing health problems for Sherrill?
Trembley said it would be "pure speculation" for him to link the two. At least that's what I think he said. He was biting his tongue at the time.
Chris Ray will pitch an inning tomorrow at Frederick, and another inning Friday at Aberdeen.
Asked if Ray could pitch for the Orioles this season, Trembley said he couldn't predict what will happen.
Matt Albers is scheduled to throw 30 pitches off a mound on Thursday and Saturday. He'll use all his pitches for the first time. On Saturday, he threw only fastballs. Two days later, he threw fastballs and changeups.
The plan is for Albers to throw live batting practice on Aug. 26.
Greg Aquino will throw one inning at Frederick tomorrow and one inning at Aberdeen on Friday.
Danys Baez remains on a throwing program and is about 1 1/2 months behind Ray. However, the Orioles no longer are convinced that he'll be sidelined until May. If he can report to the instructional league and begin pitching in games by the end, he might be full-go for spring training.
Adam Jones is stretching and playing catch. He'll hit off a tee later. He rode a stationary bike yesterday. By the end of the week, he could be taking fly balls from John T-Bone Shelby and join his batting practice group.
Jones said he won't need another CT scan. Trembley will let the medical personnel decide.

Roch, can your laptop handle 4 entries in 71 minutes? I guess they gave you some better equipment when the blog moved. Maybe now you get to plug into Angelos' private internet connection at the stadium.
Trembley thinks a few innings at the All Star Game did this? Sherrill blew a couple before the ASG. I'm not big on pitch counts or innings pitched unless it becomes extreme. Everyone gets a little sore at this stage of the season.
With all of these pitchers coming back the Bullpen is going to be loaded next year. Ron White loaded.
Good news on Adam Jones. Can't wait to see him come back.
I'm guessing Montanez isn't playing because of the wrist or because of who's pitching tonight but a rebuilding team should play the young guys more often. Trembley is starting to remind me of George Allen, all vets all the time.
And Hank Steinbrenner has the nerve to complain about injuries! This sounded more like a medical report than a sports reports.
I wear glasses but I'm sure that said right the first time.
