Shawn Hill to have surgery on elbow; scheduled to have forearm examined
Nationals right-handed pitcher Shawn Hill will have surgery on his right elbow. Hill, who went to see famed specialist Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida on Friday, has calcium buildup in the back of the elbow and Dr. Andrews suggested surgery.
The procedure won't be done until late next week at the earliest because Hill is scheduled to go to the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Wednesday to see Dr. Tom Hunt about his ailing forearm.
Andrews didn't rule out the possibility of Hill needing extensive surgery if he found more than just calcium buildup during the operation.
Hill made 12 starts this year and had a 1-5 record with a 5.83 ERA. He has been dealing with forearm soreness all season long and the pain proved to be too much. Hill went on the disabled list in late June and rest was recommended by the doctors, but that hasn't worked.
