Updating Jones and Matusz
Head athletic trainer Richie Bancells recommended that Adam Jones hit in the cage one more day before taking live batting practice.
Jones stood in center field to shag fly balls, though he didn't do much running.
I'll have more later on Brian Matusz's press conference. He made a great first impression, beginning with manager Dave Trembley. Matusz walked on the field with his family during batting practice wearing a dress shirt and sport coat, and Trembley said he admired the pitcher's professionalism. That's exactly what the Orioles are looking for.
Matusz will report to Aberdeen tomorrow to work out with the IronBIrds, but not pitch for them. It's still undetermined whether he'll go to the Arizona Fall League - his preference, since he grew up in Phoenix - or the Hawaiian Winter League.
The Orioles cap that Matusz wore at the end of his press conference was a little too big for him. "I just got a haircut," he said.
Joe Jordan, director of scouting, told Matusz that he didn't have to keep wearing it.
"Can I keep it on?" Matusz replied.
Yes, he's that excited to be here.
