Another new member of the organization
Don't feel bad if you've never heard of him.
Today's starting pitcher for Triple-A Norfolk is Alfredo Simon, 27, formerly of the Mexican League - and no relation to the guy who bashed the racing sausage in Milwaukee.
Alfredo Simon, who's never assaulted a sausage in his life that wasn't placed beside a fried egg, was added to the Tides roster and after going 7-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 15 games (11 starts) for Sultanes de Monterrey. He struck out 61 and walked 20 in 81 innings, holding opponents to a .220 average.
He's the 18th pitcher to start for Norfolk this season, and the 50th player to appear on the roster.
Following reliever Jim Miller's promotion, 20 players have spent time with Norfolk and the Orioles this season.

Roch,
I don't think we can call Simon a NEW member of the organization. The Orioles drafted RHP Alfredo Simon from the Texas Rangers in the Rule V draft on December 7th, 2006. They traded Simon to the Phillies on the same day for another Rule V player, C Adam Donachie. They ended up returning Donachie to Kansas City (his original team) on 3-27-07.
Assuming that this is the same Alfredo Simon, this is his 2nd stint in the organization. If only for a few hours the first time.

We'll have to get a ruling from the judges on what constitutes "new," but you're right. Nicely done! I knew the guy sounded familiar. - Roch
To point out a crowning irony, sausage-basher Randall Simon was hiding out in the Mexican League last season, no doubt part of a trade-off he made for the Federal Sausage Witness Protection Program. Dunno where he is this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he changed his identity.
Just wondering if Simon is now a possible call-up? Warm body and all....
BTW... Randall Simon took up a roster spot (or two, maybe, he's a big guy) for the Newark Bears. Somewhere there is a Jay Gibbons joke in this, but I'm too hungover to figure it out.
Either way, who knew Pat Mahomes was still playing baseball? Yeah he's in the Northern League. Pat Mahomes... really?

I want to hear more about the hangover! I spent a large portion of my day (and night) at Bay Cafe, but remembered to drain a few bottles of water before bed. Always helps! - Roch
