Another short start

The Orioles might want to bring up a few more relievers this week. A dozen or so should do the trick.

Radhames Liz went 3 1/3 innings tonight, leaving with seven runs on the board and two men his responsibility on the bases. Fernando Cabrera entered the game and served up a three-run shot to Dustin Pedroia, feeding him a 92 mph fastball up and over the plate.

He should have just flipped it to Pedroia.

Now we're looking at a 10-1 game in the fifth inning. I suggest doing so with one hand covering your eyes.

You know the Orioles will score a few more runs because they don't roll over. But I have a bad feeling the Red Sox aren't done, either.

No Jeremy Guthrie tomorrow, so the bullpen will receive another early call. But according to The Sun's Jeff Zrebiec, Jim Johnson won't be a late-inning option because he has a shoulder issue that will require an MRI.

It keeps getting worse. And there isn't a whole lot that manager Dave Trembley can do besides grimace in the dugout and wonder why he's being punished.

At least Aubrey Huff received some good news. For the second time this season, he's been named the AL's Player of the Week.

"He should have just flipped it to Pedroia."

At least Pedroia wouldn't have gotten a hand on it that way. Ow!

Pretty bad game, maybe we are going for a higher draft pick...

Ah come on already! Can we please just catch a freaking break every now and again? I'm sure that none of us expected the O's to make a 2007 Rockies-esque push to the post season... but we actually had a shot at making a respectable season - all things considered. Now it's just painful. I feel for everyone doning an Orioles uniform that doesn't have to toe the rubber.

Roch, any word on Andy Mitchell and Eider Torres being among the callups?

At this point i'd even consider Gary Knotts.

Both are possibilities, though they'd have to make room for Mitchell on 40-man. - Roch

This team is unwatchable. If they don't want to expose minor league pitching at this point-- and I can understand that perspective-- they should sign some veteran castoffs a la Steve Trachsel to just eat innings for the month of September and bring this season to a merciful conclusion.

Yes, I am fully serious.

I think Trembly mentioned in the past few days that he will be patient w/the young pitchers going through their growing pains. Thing is...it is of concern to me that there is no improvement...in fact, the more they pitch, the worse they get. We need to address this in the off season. I see hope in the minors, but we need to somehow get through next year and I don't see where any of these pitchers belong in the major leagues...other than Guthrie.

Somebody needs to ask AMac why this happens every year. And the follow-up question is, why are the young pitchers not developing? Was it bad scouting? Bad coaching? Or What?

btw...I am taking bets on when this site "remembers personal information." I'm putting my money down on never.

Somebody better make sure Trembley doesn't have access to any sharp instruments after this one...

Everyday it gets worse... How bad will it be by the end???

The O's explode for a run in the 9th. Boy oh boy, you can never turn your TV off with this team, can you?

Ladies and Gentlemen, the wheels have officially come off. How could any team be this bad without trying to be so? Trade BRob in the off-season. How would he ever think of re-signing with a club this galactically bad? He's the only marketable commodity not named Nick Markakis or Adam Jones; get something for him.

Brilliant handling of the bullpen by DT tonight, because of the way it sets up tomorrow. Even with Johnson on the shelf, he's got Cormier and Bierd to take us through, say, the 5th to the 6th; Sarfate and Walker (for big LH hitters) in the 6th and 7th; in the 8th, Mickolio setting up Rocky Cherry.

Give the disruption of the pitching due to injuries, that gives us a chance to win.

There's an off day Thursday, then most of the bullpen is ready Friday.

Kudos to DT.

Roch,

Still think Liz's minor league stats are worth anything, in answer to the question of who in his right mind deemed him major league ready? Do you think there's something to be said for Norfolk's catcher benefiting with him, as opposed to Ramon?

I've been saying for a while that Liz isn't ready to pitch at this level, but if it's a rebuilding year and you're looking ahead to '09 and 2010, and you don't have many other choices to fill out a depleted rotation... - Roch
