Any team in a storm
So who's going to win more games in September, the Orioles or Ravens?
Anyone planning on attending today's doubleheader at Camden Yards? As of this moment, and I just looked out my window, it isn't raining. Maybe they should have scheduled the first game for 6 a.m.
Then again, the fog's pretty heavy. Either that, or my car has been stolen.
If both games are washed out - and there's a better chance of the nightcap being played - the Orioles likely would reschedule them for Sept. 25. They're in the middle of a homestand on that date. Oakland would have to fly from Texas, to Baltimore, on its way to Seattle.
Sounds like a plan.
The Orioles have one road trip remaining, with three games in Toronto Sept. 16-18 and three in New York Sept. 19-21 for the final series ever played at Yankee Stadium.
Since the pitchers have no idea how to throw strikes anymore, manager Dave Trembley should make a symbolic gesture by banning them from the team charter and insisting that they walk.

Well there is no doubt about it, the pitchers have lost their focus. I'm still focused however, I'm going to petition MLB to have the September games removed for the 2009 season. Everyone else should do the same. This way, we may have a shot at .500 next year!
Based on this week's performance, today's forecast should include 3.5 inches of rain, wind gusts up to 45 MPH, and 16 walks.

Love that comment.
This sort of swoon only comes from the team losing focus and drive as they play out the string. It's one thing to get swept by a team competing for a playoff spot, but to get completely hammered by one of the few teams (at least currently) below us in wins, is inexcusable. Why are we the only team that has these record-breaking exercises in futility (2002 swoon, 30-3 loss, bases-loaded walkfest)? I'd be ripping new a$$holes if I were DT. If I did my job like these guys are doing theirs, I'd have met the same fate as Fernando Cabrera long ago. I thought we has moved beyond sickening, but I was wrong.
Wow...as I wake up today, celebrating another year...I find it hard to believe it is the 13 year anniversary of Ripken breaking Gehrig's record.
I really should have been at that game. I had been a Orioles fan all of my adult life, been following Ripken since he started his career, had Oriole 8 on my license plate, had a house address of 2130, and really needed an excuse to skip one of my MBA classes (actually -- I did do that).
Wish we had some reasons to proud of this team...they came close...they battled for most of the year...I was not looking for much, a chance at .500 was exciting...the thought that we might have some young pitchers in the system coming up...an offense that has exceeded what everybody thought it could do (we could have 3 guys with 50 doubles!)...and yet, the last 15 game have reminded us all of the disappointment is still there ...
Hi Roch -- Yes, I have tickets for today's early game. Not looking too good, huh? Maybe that's a good thing -- time to re-group and see what to do next. Last night's game was just too hard to watch in the eighth.
When will this madness end? I mean, a bunch of times I've said "I could pitch better than these guys", but last night I meant it. How many runs can you walk in before you say "hey, I'm going to just throw it right over the plate every time." Its embarrassing to get shelled, but its more embarrassed to walk all those runs in; at least if they're hitting you, they're earning the runs.
Good trade for Bass too, that worked out well so far.
What happened to the Burress who could throw strikes? We know hes been able to do it at some point. Is he hurt? He hasn't been the same pitcher since early june.
Looking at the bright side of things after last night's loss, Dave Trembley substantially lowered his personal ERA in games immediately following signing a contract extension to 20.50.
I was really hoping the club wouldn't go through another one of these brutal stretches that seems to plague them every year around this time. I had my doubts about a .500 season but was hoping for something close. Now it looks like another painful stretch run in which 70 victories will be a challenge. Morale in that clubhouse can't be too high.
Interesting pick up with Brian Bass. I wonder if they actually see something in him or if he simply was the best arm available at that particular time.
I am planning on going to both games with my wife, who is going to Camden Yards for the first time. We might be the only ones there though.
No question the O's are in a rough patch. They played well above expectations early in the season and are reverting to the mean now. Most experts had them picked to finish with the worst record in baseball, and I'm sure we'll avoid that embarrassment. The pitching staff is just out of gas and the young players that should provide some relief are also gassed. Not much they can do but keep trying to win. In any case this is a rebuilding year, they are improving their position in next June's draft.
At least if the doubleheader is rained out that's 16 walks we won't have to watch.
If they extend Trembley again do it on an off day. Maybe the bad karma will have time to disapate.
My dad and I had been planning on coming down for a rare afternoon Saturday game, but the fact that the weather channel is predicting a 100% chance of rain all afternoon we're passing. (The five bases loaded walks last night didn't make the decision any harder, either.) At least the chance for rain is down to 80% by 7pm.
I just want to say that if MLB would have scheduled around the Raven's game correctly to begin with we wouldn't be having this problem.
My group from Washington has held season tickets since Camden Yards opened. Up until the Nats arrived, we had a full season package. Even after that, we kept Sunday tickets. If the O's do not cancel today's afternoon game (the one moved from Sunday), I'm probably going to see if the rest of the group will drop the tickets. We end up eating far more tickets than most of us like. I ate 3 for Detroit and could only get $82 back for my 4 NYY tickets, a premium game that the box office was charging $180 for 4. I know at least two other games where we could not find takers. That's 4. Then we have this farce of a game moved to Saturday because the NFL and the Ravens big-footed their schedule onto a day when the O's were in town. Now I'm supposed to drive up from Arlington in the middle of flash flood watches and pretty clear projections for tropical storm winds and rains? Well, that's BS, but they will open the gates and try to play so I will not be able to get a rain check. I can waltz in for the games I want in weather that is good, as can anyone in my group. Why bother with season tickets or a partial plan if the Os think so little about customer service?
Oh, and the beer probably ain't cold because of a power outage, and it'll be darn watery.
