Backup QB spot still up for grabs
| | Comments (0)

The Ravens had three free-agent quarterbacks at their team headquarters in Owings Mills yesterday, and despite two seperate reports that the team had settled on a backup for Joe Flacco, no official announcement has been made.

Today, ESPN's John Clayton reported that the Ravens have come to terms with 10-year veteran Todd Bouman on a one-year, $830,000 deal, but Baltimore has yet to release confirmation of the agreement.

Bouman has spent time with Minnesota, New Orleans, Green Bay, Jacksonville and St. Louis. The Jaguars released the 36-year-old over the weekend.

Yesterday, ESPN.com reported that Joey Harrington, who was cut by the Falcons, had signed with the Ravens. ESPN has since backed off that claim, and is now saying that although Harrington is still an option, the former first-round pick is also talking with other teams.

Chris Simms was the other quarterback that worked out in Owings Mills on Monday, but it appears that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer is the least likely of the three to join the Ravens, perhaps because he would demand too large of a contract.

Here is an update on the Ravens' roster moves over the last couple of days:

The Ravens claimed and added DT Lamar Divens, a rookie out of Tennessee State who was cut by the San Diego Chargers, and K Steven Hauschka, another rookie, out of North Carolina State. Hauschka was waived by the Minnesota Vikings.

Baltimore also came to an injury settlement and waived CB David Pittman. The former third-round pick was put on injured reserve last week.

The following players have been added to the eight-man practice squad:
Casey Bramlet (QB, 6-4, 220, 2nd-year, Wyoming)
Joe Reitz (T, 6-7, 270, Rookie, Western Michigan)
Ernie Wheelwright (WR, 6-5, 220, Rookie, Minnesota)
J'Vonne Parker (DT, 6-4, 325, 2nd-year, Rutgers)
Nate Lawrie (TE, 6-6, 255, 4th-year, Yale)
Marcus Mason (RB, 5-9, 215, 1st-year, Youngstown State)
Bryan Mattison (DE, 6-3, 272, Rookie, Iowa)
Matt Willis (WR, 5-11, 190, 2nd-year, UCLA)

Rookie wide receiver Justin Harper was initially signed to the practice squad, but has been placed on injured reserve.

Parker, who was waived by the Ravens over the weekend, was signed to fill the opening on the practice squad.
