Bergesen down early (updated)
| | Comments (2)

Double-A Bowie starter Brad Bergesen threw nine of his 12 pitches for strikes in the first inning of tonight's Eastern League Southern Division playoff game. Unfortunately, one of them was a leadoff triple by Akron's Josh Rodriguez, who scored on Bronson Sardinha's grounder for a 1-0 lead.

Bergesen struck out Matt LaPorta to end the inning, so that should rate a special ceremony after the game. LaPorta destroyed the Baysox last night with four hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs.

Nolan Reimold just cleared the scoreboad in left field for the second consecutive night, tying the game at 1. He's homered in four straight games, and five of six.

And Bowie has taken a 2-1 lead in the first on Matt Wieters infield hit, a throwing error that allowed him to take second base, and Jeff Nettles' single to right.

The Redskins' opener must be keeping fans at home or in sports bars. There are a lot of empty seats here at Prince Georges Stadium.

That was just a few less people than were at Wednesday's game. I've been pretty disappointed about the turn out considering that Bowie hasn't made it to the playoffs since 97.

You were at the game tonight? I didn't see you...hmmm. Sad that there were so few people, but what a great game!
