Dmitri Young doubles in two at bats with Lake Monsters
Dmitri Young began his rehab assignment with the Vermont Lake Monsters on Monday. Young was the DH in the second game of a doubleheader against the Oneonta Tigers and had a double in two at bats.
Young is scheduled to DH again Tuesday night before playing first base in the final four game of the Lake Monsters season. Vermont, who swept the doubleheader yesterday, takes on Oneonta in the series finale tonight.
Once the Lake Monster season is over, Young will join the Nationals because the rest of the Nationals Minor League affiliates have completed their seasons. Single-A Potomac begins post-season play on Wednesday, but rules prohibit Young from playing for the P-Nats in the playoffs.
Young, who went on the DL on July 19, retroactive July 12, to get his diabetes under control, was batting .280 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 50 games for the Nationals this season. Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden talked about Young going to Vermont.
