Jesus Flores carted off with left ankle injury; X-rays were negative
Catcher Jesus Flores had to be carted off the field in the top of the third inning after a collision with Chase Utley at the plate. Flores left with a left ankel sprain and x-rays came back negative. He will have an MRI to determine if there is any other damage.
Utley was trying to score when John Lannan threw over to first to keep Jason Werth close to the bag. Utley dove head first into Flores, who was blocking the plate. Flores had his left ankle twist awkwardly underneath him. Flores, who got the out, then rolled over in obvious pain, grabbing the lower portion of his left leg.
Head athletic trainer Lee Kuntz, assistant trainer Michael McGowan and manager Manny Acta came out to help Flores. Kuntz made an X with his arms to indicate that something was broken and they needed assistance.
As they were wrapping Flores' left ankle, the medical cart came and took him for x-rays.
