McGahee, McAlister return to practice
| | Comments (0)

Running back Willis McGahee and cornerback Chris McAlister were back practicing with the team yesterday, after both had missed the preseason with knee injuries.

McGahee had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during training camp, but he returned to the practice fields yesterday. Head coach John Harbaugh did not go into great detail about McGahee's stutus for the season opener this Sunday against the Bengals, but did say that McGahee hopes to play.

"I wouldn't say he was 100 percent, just watching him run around out there," Harbaugh said of his Pro Bowl running back. "But he was out there, so we'll have to see how he progresses this week."

If McGahee cannot play on Sunday, rookie Ray Rice will get the start. Le'Ron McClain, the Ravens' 6-foot, 260 pound fullback, will also serve as the Ravens' backup halfback if McGahee has to miss the opener.

McAlister also was back with the team yesterday, after he had been sidelined during the preseason with a swollen right knee. Harbaugh was similarly guarded about the cornerback's status for this weekend's opener.

"All you can go by is what you see," Harbaugh said. "He practiced [yesterday] and did a nice job, so that's where we're at."
