Reimold a slamming success
| | Comments (15)

Nolan Reimold just hit an opposite-field grand slam in the eighth inning, giving him three homers and eight RBIs - and the starting left field job with the Orioles.

OK, I'm kidding about the last part. But what's more unbelievable?

Reimold has nine homers in his last nine games, four in this series. He just passed David Dellucci for most homers by a Bowie player in the postseason. And it only took him two games.

Brad Bergesen turned in eight solid innings tonight, allowing three runs (two earned) and four hits, walking one and striking out seven. He threw 98 pitches.

Only 98 pitches in eight innings. It really does happen. And I wish Orioles manager Dave Trembley could have witnessed it, just as a reminder.

Steve Torrealba homered in the seventh for Bowie, which is leading, 11-3, and only three outs away from heading to Akron with the best-of-five series tied, 1-1.

Lou Montanez was here tonight to be honored as Most Valuable Player in the Eastern League. He stayed for most of the game, sitting in a booth beside the press box. He joked that he was lucky the regular season ended before Reimold could overtake him for the home run lead and ruin his Triple Crown bid.

At least, I think he was joking.

What's not to like after seeing this? Reimold hitting homeruns left and right and center. Bergesen only needing 98 pitches for 8 solid innings while striking out 7, and ahem, only walking ONE. That's a pitching performance the Major League staff should follow.

This continues to make the case for Bergesen. He should be at least called up after he finishes his start(s).

Wow, just wow.

Also, I liked the 'Playmakers' show on MASN Thursday afternoon.

I had intended on going tonight, but got caught up in other things. Sounds like I missed a great game. I will definitely be there Sunday if the series goes that far.

I have a crazy idea: Let's see if Nolan Reimold can hit above double A ball before we award him a starting job with the O's next year.

Nolan was awesome tonight & Bergesen was great too! So glad I was there to see a great Baysox win! Here's hoping they're able to get 2 in Akron!

You shouldn't pretend that he won the starting left field job for the Orioles. We could do far worse than give him the opportunity. Someone, please, give this kid a chance.

Groundballs at short? If the won't put Jones back at short, maybe they can try putting Montanez back there.

When we watch the Orioles next year here's one vote for Reimold in left ,Wieters behind the plate with Millar,Payton and Hernandez elsewhere. Montanez can be the 4th outfielder and platoon with Scott at DH. Lets get younger and more athletic. Our pitchers will never improve with Ramon half-assing it behind the plate. They can't possibly have any confidence in any aspect of his game defensively. When Millar decides to quit playing offer him a job in the organization or with MASN.

What a difference a year makes. Last year in the outfield we had Markakis and...that was about it. Now we have Markakis, Jones, Scott, Montanez and Reimold. One of them needs to start taking ground balls at short.

This should seal Reimold being #1 on Baseball America's Hot Sheet tomorrow. Maybe a top 25 prospect as well? And Yes, there's no reason why he shouldn't be in Baltimore once the playoffs are finished

The 98 pitches in eight innings is one of several reasons that Bergeseon should have been in Baltimore two months ago. Thanks also Roch for mentioning that he hit 92 on the gun tonight. Several here have been referring to him as a soft tosser this week.

He wasnt bunting tonight??

Old Man Johnson said:

Yeah, reserve the 4th outfielder spot for him in 2009. If you don't believe me, look what they are doing to Lou Montanez.

Roch, did you hear the last place Nat's are lowing their ticker prices next season by $5-$10 in the outfield? MMMM....? Hey, I have a great idea...you fill in the blank.

Yours truly,

Old Man Johnson a.k.a. 'sleeping foot'

Roch, excellent job on covering Bowie's playoff run.

You may have been joking about the starting LF part, but this off-season we need to find a place for him on our roster. Not only has he put up huge numbers, he has great plate discipline. He has walked almost as many times as he has struck out.

Roch,
He's got my vote for starting leftfielder!! I'm with everyone else give the man a chance!
Next question Can He Pitch?
