Sad news about a former Oriole
| | Comments (2)

Former Orioles third baseman Todd Cruz died Tuesday while swimming in the pool at the apartment complex in which he lived in Bullhead City, AZ., about 100 miles south of Las Vegas. The cause of death is pending results of the coroner's office in Arizona, but it's believed he suffered a heart attack. He was 52 years old.

He is survived by a sister, Sharon Maceri, and two sons, Thaddeus and Dario.

Cruz was the third baseman on the '83 World Series team, so he'll always be a beloved figure in Baltimore. He fell upon hard times after his retirement, but that's not how he should be remembered.

He will be missed. Less than a week ago I received his autograph on a card through the mail that I had sent him about a year and a half ago. He was one of the "3 Stooges" from that 83 WS team(with Dempsey & Dauer as I remember). Thanks to Todd for being part of our most recent World Series team.
