Trembley defends Walker
I rushed home after tonight's game, waiting until now to file my last entry, because my daughter had an upset stomach and needed something to soothe it. I tried four stores in Eldersburg before I found one that was open, failing once at a 24-hour Exxon on the corner of Liberty Rd. and Rt. 32 with a sign taped to a locked door that read, "Be right back. Thanks."
It reminded me of the famous Steven Wright bit, where he drives to a store that was supposed to be open 24 hours, only to find that the doors were locked. He sees the night manager through the glass and taps on it. The manager yells, "Sorry, we're closed." Wright says, "But your sign says you're open 24 hours," and the manager replies, "Not in a row."
Left-hander Jamie Walker, believed to be pitching through pain in his elbow for most of the season, places any blame for his poor season squarely on himself. And he'll take whatever criticism is aimed his way. But manager Dave Trembley felt it necessary to rush to his defense tonight, after Walker recorded the last two outs in the eighth inning for his ninth "hold."
"For whatever Walker's record is or his ERA or anything like that, I think Walker epitomizes what we're trying to do around here," Trembley said. "The guy never shies away, he doesn't make excuses, he accepts responsibility when things don't go his way. When he gives it up, he mans up to it.
"We all know he's probably not 100 percent, but he doesn't use that as an excuse. I know he has been maligned, but he takes it like a man and he gives you what he's got. And tonight he got big outs for us and that was key in the game, what he did. And I think he's to be respected for that."

Walker had a great outing....
MILLAR was back to his usual defensive specialist ways, he even made the number 4th web gem on Baseball Tonight, with that sweet diving catch!!....
Mora's back!! what more could we ask for??? well we could ask for some great starting pitching throughout the rest of the month...but, baby steps my friends...baby steps
Hanging tough it terrific but he cost the O's more than a few games with his pitiful "situational" outings. As a veteran, I assume it is okay to be gritty while "he takes it like a man and he gives you what he's got". But a young pitcher, like Loewen, Albers,or even Cabrera, is using poor judgment to try to keep it quiet and pitch through it? Short of a career being almost over vs. one possibly on the rise, why the different attitude since, in both cases, it hurts the team when someone pitches hurt?
Trembly appears to like what we call BS, yes-men and Rah, Rah people. Millar and Walker are lousy players on a scale of quality baseball players, but they have a "good attitude", so they get a pass from big Dave. I don't know much, but I don't believe that is a recipe for a championship team.
Doesn't Walker have bone spurs or something like that ? What Trembley is saying is this..."he could go on the DL, but we would rather have him here cuz we have no one else. He's not 100% , so he gets lit up more often than not. He doesn't whinge and he accepts his responsibility." And that is called leading by example. It's not like the bone spurs or whatever are going away with rest.
Hope your daughter's feeling better Roch

Thanks. Had to keep her home from school today. Just a cold that needs to run its course. - Roch
"I think Walker epotimizes what we're trying to do around here." Exactly what I would have expected out of Trembley's mouth. I couldn't agree more. I left handed relief specialist whose specialty is serving up home runs to left handed hitters. Walker fits in perfectly with the rest of this pitching staff. Exactly what they are trying to do around here is right. That's why next year will be twelve straight losing seasons. I wish Trembley would go and take walker with him. BTW, does anybody have a crowbar to pry Trembley's hands apart?
I'm pretty sure in Eldersburgian "Open 24 Hours" translates to "Open from 9am - 8pm."
At least the eburg dennys is 24-7.... or Martins

I ended up at Martins. That's the ol' standby. Are you sure Denny's is 24-7? - Roch
It's times like these where I think tangibles are overrated. Talent-->winning-->team morale/chemistry.
Attitude is great but it's secondary to the things that truly help the team win games.
