Could Loewen become an ex-Oriole?
No one is saying Adam Loewen's days as an Oriole are numbered, but the possibility does exist that he could be with another organization next season.
Loewen, released by the club Monday, has cleared waivers. But now that he is a free agent the O's are not the only team showing interest in Loewen as a hitter.
"There are other clubs in the offing, more significantly than even Adam or his agent anticipated," said O's President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail.
MacPhail said considering Loewen hadn't swung a bat in five years he was a little surprised at the interest.
He was asked if that might just be talk or if he feels other clubs are serious about their interest in the O's 2002 first-round pick.
"If you made me bet, I'd say it was genuine (interest)," MacPhail said. "But you never know for certain. You do what you think makes sense and whatever happens, happens afterwards."
Is MacPhail still confident Loewen will be with the club in 2009?
"I still feel pretty good, but you never know, it's a goofy business."
MacPhail feels that teams remember Loewen's hitting as an amateur more so than any team having scouted him in the instructional league where Loewen worked with O's staff.
If Loewen does resign with the Orioles, it seems likely he would start with Frederick.

Boy that sure would suck. He'll hit 30 homeruns as a Dodger, or Yankee, or Red Sox, or Cub or Tiger or Phillie or Ranger or.....

Huh?
