Me for the money
I'm 7-3-2 against the spread going into tonight's game between Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. I took the Jags, giving up four points.
The two pushes involved the Ravens (+3) and Broncos (-3). And don't get me started on the Ravens' game. That roughing the quarterback call against Terrell Suggs was beyond ridiculous. It's not an excuse for the Ravens losing, since their defense couldn't make a stop when it needed to, but the Titans should have been facing a third and long. Suggs didn't club Kerry Collins in the head. The flag never should have been thrown.
If I'm Ray Nitschke, I'm rolling over in my grave. And clotheslining the guy next to me.
I'm proud of my Arizona selection. It was a sucker bet, a trap. I'm sure most people loved undefeated Buffalo getting a point. But the Cardinals were home, and they won, 41-17.
If it looks too easy, the bookies are setting you up.
I'll admit that I wasn't real comfortable taking Cincinnati and the 17 points over Dallas, figuring that the Cowboys would probably score in triple digits. But I can't go the other way and be down, 17-0, before kickoff. Not in the NFL. And the Cowboys didn't cover. Good for me.
Now here comes my confession, and I hope you won't think less of me:
I like Hines Ward.
There, I said it. And I'm not ashamed.
I know it's unacceptable to approve of anyone or anything associated with the Steelers, but I'm a big Ward fan. He's not afraid to go over the middle. He's one of the best blocking receivers in NFL history. He does the dirty work, but he's much more than a grunt. He's been one of the top players at his position, able to beat you with his hands, legs or arm (don't forget he was a quarterback, tailback and receiver at the University of Georgia). He's clutch. Pound for pound, he's as tough as they come. He's old-school in a lot of ways, and true football fans should appreciate that quality.
If he's able to lure a knucklehead into a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by jawing at him, he should be commended. And the Ravens would be lucky to have him lined up opposite Derrick Mason, so Joe Flacco would have more than one receiver to choose from.
Besides, how can you hate a guy who's missing an ACL in his left knee, the product of a bicycle accident as a kid? Nobody knew until he entered the draft, and he tumbled to the third round.
That's a first-round talent, and I want him on my team.

Of all the players in the NFL that you would like to see get a season ending injury every year in week 1(but not anything permanently disabling, of course)- it's Hiney Ward.
There I said it.

And I respect your opinion, but please give me a reason... - Roch
He's a punk. There I said it.
