Nationals Name Dr. Wiemi Douoguih Team Medical Director
The Washington Nationals today named Dr. Wiemi Douoguih team Medical Director. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.
"You could not find a better trained, capable sports doctor than Wiemi Douoguih," said Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, AL. "Wiemi has always been devoted to study and advanced knowledge, especially as it pertains to baseball injuries. But what sets him apart are his communicative skills and his ability to put the patient at ease. Wiemi's future is bright and it is my belief that the Nationals made a wise appointment."
"We at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic are very proud of Wiemi," said Dr. Frank Jobe of Los Angeles. "He did an outstanding job as a Fellow and we knew he would be a leader in sports medicine."
Dr. Timothy Kremchek of Cincinnati, OH added, "I have had the pleasure of getting to know and work closely with Dr. Wiemi Douoguih for four years and can attest that he is ready and prepared for the task at hand. Douoguih is well versed in the care of elite athletes, but especially the notion that baseball players and their injuries are of a unique nature. It is this understanding coupled with his exceptional training and passion that make this a fantastic hire for the Nationals."
Douoguih currently runs a top-notch sports medicine practice at The Washington Hospital Center where he has introduced his brand of elite-level athlete care to the entire population. Douoguih did his training at the world-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles and has served locally as the Assistant Team Physician for the Washington Redskins. He remains a consulting surgeon for the Baltimore Ravens.
In addition to his duties with the Nationals, Douoguih is the Associate Team Physician for the University of Maryland Athletics Department. Douoguih is a team physician for USA Judo.
"I could not be more excited to join the Nationals organization," said Douoguih. "My task from day one is to offer championship-level expertise and care to Nationals players and their families. I am eager to begin my affiliation with the Nationals."
In addition to his role in the care of hundreds of athletes, Douoguih has published and lectured widely, with special scientific interest directed to the complex knee injury in professional athletes. Douoguih is one of the rare sports medicine physicians who is also an elite, national level athlete, as he was a lacrosse All-American at Washington & Lee University. He is a resident of the District of Columbia.
