Thank you, replay
Joe Flacco made a mistake, but thanks to instant replay, he won't have to pay the price for it.
Flacco was looking for Demetrius Williams deep down the left sideline, but Williams was covered, so Flacco tried to improvise. He rolled to his right, bought some time, and tried to sneak the ball in to Mark Clayton. Titans' linebacker David Thornton read Flacco's eyes the whole way, and picked the pass off.
Or so we thought.
John Harbaugh tossed the red challenge flag, intending that Thornton never had complete control of the ball before he stepped out of bounds. Referee Bill Carollo took a look, and overturned the original call.
Flacco's thinking was correct -- roll out of the pocket, buy some time, look to dump it down and pick up some easy yardage -- but he needs to be careful against this defense. Their front-seven is extremely aggressive and will bring pressure. Flacco needs to make smart decisions and just throw the ball away when he's in trouble.
Kerry Collins already has thrown two interceptions; Flacco nearly had his first of the day. He needs to know that the team that makes the fewest mistakes is going to win this football game.
