Another spin around the NFL
Interesting headline of the day: Ohio Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Self
It happens.
The British parents of a young boy born with pulmonary arterial hypertension have been treating his condition by giving him up to six doses of liquid Viagra a day.
The drug relaxes the pulmonary artery and allows more blood and oxygen to flow through, but the poor kid will be up all night.
OK, back to football.
I still despise the NFL. The Packers (-3) have second-and-goal from the 1 late in the today's game against Carolina, get stuffed twice and settle for the go-ahead field goal after the two-minute warning. That's a push in betting circles. You don't win, you don't lose.
But you do lose when the Panthers follow up with a long completion to Steve Smith and another DeAnglo Williams touchdown.
I almost pulled out my hair - which would save me about an hour every morning.
What could possibly make me take the Raiders today? They're home against the Chiefs.
I'm giving up three points - yes, they're actually favored - and the Chiefs are leading by a touchdown. It's been that kind of day.
I'm listening to the NFL Network for background noise while I type this entry - and also flipping to the Patriots-Steelers game - and I swear studio analyst Jim Mora sounds like Ross Perot. Or Dana Carvey doing Ross Perot.
Mora commented on the Mark Clayton touchdown pass by asking, "Do they really need the trickeration?"
Is that a real word?
Big day for Mr. Clayton. He totaled 164 receiving yards and a touchdown, and threw for another score. The one-handed TD catch was an absolute thing of beauty.
Just checking here: Is there still a quarterback controversy in Baltimore?
Another question: Is there any doubt that the Giants are the best team in the NFL, and by a fairly wide margin?
Too bad they were so distracted today by the Plaxico Burress drama. They could barely concentrate while thoroughly dominating the Redskins.
And speaking of the Redskins, quarterback Jason Campbell's decision-making borders on atrocious. If Clinton Portis doesn't run for 140 yards, that team is in real trouble.

Nice to see Cassell come back to earth. A whopping 39 QB rating against the Steelers. Ravens got some nice breaks with the Jets & Pats both losing.
Regarding the following comment...
"Don't give up on Olson yet. He's going to be good. I'm seeing the same things in him that I saw in Bedard and in John Maine. "
Olson's pitched 160 innings in the majors to an ERA of 6.00+. That doesn't mean he can't get to respectability but it is very unlikely. Bedard had solid numbers right from the start (ERA of 4.50 in the first year). Maine had some rough numbers for the Orioles but that was over a whopping 43 innings. Hardly enough to determine anything although I think he was helped significantly by being traded to the NL.
"And speaking of the Redskins, quarterback Jason Campbell's decision-making borders on atrocious. If Clinton Portis doesn't run for 140 yards, that team is in real trouble."
Have you watched many other skins games? Campbell has been great strides, especially in his decision-making, this season, and I think to judge his performance based on a game against the best team in the NFL might not be exactly accurate, yheard.

I've seen plenty of him, and he's definitely made strides, which is why it now only "borders" on atrocious. - Roch
Thinking of the pure comedy in the "Ohio Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Self" story, and then realizing dude shot himself after showing the finer points of "gun safety" to his daughter... I'm sure Plaxico must have read it and thought "Damn. That's what I meant to say...yeah"
Imagine the grief you get the day this happens to you (direct quote, from you, even: "It happens.") and you get to report it. Your daughter? SOOOOO running away from home.
(Coincidentally, I request to be put back up for adoption all the time, but my dad says the receipt clearly states a strict 35-year return policy. Not that they've tried, I'm sure...)
Any chance we can package D-Cab in that three way trade?
He's only worth a bucket of baseballs and that's being generous in today's economy.
Believe it or not there are still people calling local sports talk shows saying Troy Smith would be the better option...guess it just goes to show that just because people watch football sure doesn't mean they know a darn thing about the game. I mean the Ravens are 9-4 so I guess they'd be 11-2 or 12-1 with a QB that couldn't hit water falling out of a boat huh?
