Halftime thoughts as the Ravens trail 20-3
Baltimore got dominated in all aspects of the game in the first half, and they trail the Giants 20-3 because of it.
Here are a few quick-hit thoughts on the first 30 minutes of play:
- Ray Lewis is famous for his motivational speeches before a game, and when necessary, during a game. Ray-Ray has given a few the last couple of weeks, and you can only imagine what he's telling his team (and defense in particular) in the locker room.
- Lewis' interception at the end of the first half was huge. It came deep in the Ravens' own territory and obviously kept the Giants from putting more points on the board, but also gives them something to build on going into the second half.
- The Ravens have been penalized nine times for 56 yards. That is just not acceptable. The penalties also accounted for maybe the most embarrassing moment of the year, when the entire defensive line jumped offside on an Eli Manning hard count and then Bart Scott jumped on the next play, handing the Giants a fresh set of downs.
- The numbers tell the tale of how badly the Giants are dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball:
Average yards per rush for the Ravens: 3.3
Average yards per rush for the Giants: 6.2
- Baltimore has to get better at finishing drives. They continue to work their way into the opponent's red zone and settle for field goals. They'll need to capitalize on their opportunities and get touchdowns the rest of the way to get back into this game.
